According to the Government of Canada data, the province welcomed 42% of new permanent residents in 2022. Even with the ongoing challenges of COVID-19, Canada achieved a record 437,000 new permanent residents in 2022. From 2016 to 2021, Canada embraced 44% of all newcomers during that period. The government has loftier goals for 2023 and plans to welcome 465,000 new permanent residents.
Ontario is a hotspot for job opportunities—employment has surged in nearly all sectors, continuing the broad recovery from 2021. The province has shown remarkable resilience and growth. The goods-producing sector experienced a 5.3% increase in employment, while the services-producing sector was not far behind with a 4.4% increase.
