Arriving in Canada was one of the most exciting and special days of my life.
As I travelled to Canada to begin my studies as a student at Evergreen College, thousands of thoughts and questions were swirling in my mind, especially during the 18 to 20 hours I spent travelling.
When you’re thousands of miles away from your home country and your family, I think it’s normal to have these questions and doubts floating around. I remember reflecting on how unpredictable life was; how it was taking me in a new direction for new opportunities.
I tried to dwell on negative thoughts while I was in transit. Even though I was travelling across the ocean, away from my family to a new and strange place, I really wanted to focus on this experience being a new and exciting journey for me.
By putting myself in a positive mindset, I was able to enjoy my flight instead of worrying too much about the new journey ahead. Luckily, this wasn’t my first flight. I had travelled a lot before coming to Canada, so I was able to translate my love for travel into the energy and enthusiasm into this new venture.
I can honestly say that the power of positive thinking helped to carry me through the long flight. By the time I arrived in Canada, I felt more confident than when I had left. Even though I was so far away from the comforts of family and home, focusing on the excitement of the opportunities that were waiting for me helped me to persevere.
Knowing how much my family supports me and wishes for me to be successful was a driving force on my journey, and continues to motivate me here in Canada today.
