Canada’s child-care sector has always been a cornerstone of our society, nurturing the future and ensuring the safety and education of our youngest citizens. Recent statistics shed light on the evolving dynamics of this crucial field. The 2016 Census of Population reveals an embrace of global perspectives. One-third of our child-care professionals are immigrants or non-permanent residents. In contrast, these numbers account for just one-quarter in other occupational fields.

The shifts in family dynamics, particularly the rise of dual-earner households, have accentuated the demand for child-care services. In response, our child-care workforce has shown incredible commitment. Over the past thirty years, the number of Canadian families who rely on these professionals has increased from 57% to 76%. The quality of care is also rising, with 71% of child-care workers attaining postsecondary education by 2016. And in the broader scope, 80% of our Canadian workforce has consistently been full-time over the past three decades.
